What is a Rite of Passage with Damien Smith

My guest today is Joel Hines. I've known Joel for over 10 years.. since before we were both in this work. Since then, Joel has been involved at a professional level, creating Rites of Passage programs for schools and working as a facilitator with Rites of Passage Institute in Byron Bay.

Joel is extremely articulate in conversation about this subject. We meet fairly regularly to share our feelings for this work. It's a huge pleasure to share one of these chats with you.

Subtle Disruptors with Adam Murray

There are moments in our life when we cross a threshold. A place where, once we pass through, we can no longer go back. The experience cannot be unexperienced. Another person now stands in the place of the one that was here in the moment before. These moments can happen in seconds, or they can happen across years.

This is one of the key themes Joel Hines and I explore and keep coming back to in this conversation: leaving our current state; crossing thresholds; transforming; and then returning to integrate. It is something he has brought to his work as a facilitator of rites of passages, in guiding organisations to greater effectiveness, and in coaching and mentoring leaders.

The School of Wellbeing with Meg Durham

In this episode, Joel explains the THRIVE framework, a six-step process designed to cultivate connection and enable potential. They discuss the power of self-trust, acknowledging one’s achievements, and the need for space to process thoughts and feelings.

Accepting the Challenge

This weeks guest, Joel Hines, is many things. A proud husband and father, school principal, facilitator, and writer. He has always had a strong interest in the mental health of young people. Over years of listening to others stories, Joel has realised the importance of telling our stories and the power that they hold.
